Wilmington, NC: The Wilmington and Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau [CVB] is pleased to announce that Director of Convention Sales Molly Johnson, CMP recently began a one-year term as president of the Southeast Chapter of the Professional Convention Management Association [PCMA]. Molly is the organization’s first president to reside outside of the Atlanta metro area.

Prior to assuming the role of Southeast Chapter President of PCMA, Molly served as President-Elect in 2021. Molly has also served on PCMA’s Global Advocacy Task Force. Molly’s one-year term as PCMA’s Southeast Chapter president began on January 1. This office, in cooperation with the board, is responsible for general management of the chapter and the development of group efforts to achieve the organizations’ mission.

“At the end of December, it was a little sad to know that my term as president was ending but knowing Molly's drive and vision for the Southeast chapter made it easy to pass the gavel to her,” states Bernie Wilkie, Past President of PCMA Southeast Chapter. “I am excited to see how our chapter benefits & grows with her amazing ideas, well thought-out plans and her endless resources and contacts. 2022 will be a wonderful year with Molly as our president and I am thrilled to help support her in any way I can.”

As the leading global community and educator for Business Event Strategists, the principal purpose of the Southeast Chapter of PCMA—which covers Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Puerto Rico—is to increase the effectiveness of meetings and conventions through member industry education and promotion of the value of the meetings industry in the Southeast Region.

Molly Johnson joined the Wilmington and Beaches CVB in 2015 with nearly three decades of experience in the hospitality industry. In addition to PCMA, other professional memberships include: Member of Meeting Planners International Carolinas Chapter [MPI-CC] since 2002, serving as chapter president in 2010-2011 and currently as a member of MPI’s Global Chapter and Membership Advisory Council. Johnson is a past recipient of the MPI-CC Hall of Fame Award (2018), President’s Award (2017), and Supplier of the Year Award (2014). She is also a member of Meetings Mean Business and the Wilmington Area Hospitality Association [WAHA, past president].
