Wilmington, NC: On April 20-22 travel industry partners in Wilmington and its island beaches will welcome the North Carolina Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations [NCAMPO]. Returning to Wilmington for the first time since 2014, this year marks the third year that NCAMPO has held its annual conference in New Hanover County.
Approximately 500 attendees are expected to attend the 2022 NCAMPO Conference with events held at the Wilmington Convention Center. Attendees will stay at a variety of hotels including Embassy Suites by Hilton Wilmington Riverfront, Aloft Wilmington at Coastline Center, Best Western Plus Coastline Inn and Hotel Ballast Wilmington-Tapestry Collection by Hilton.
“We are excited to welcome the 2022 NCAMPO Conference back to Wilmington,” states John Sneed, vice-president of sales & services for the Wilmington and Beaches Convention and Visitors Bureau. “This is a great opportunity for us to showcase all that’s new and improved in transportation and as a travel destination since the organization last held its conference in Wilmington eight years ago.”
The 2022 NCAMPO Conference theme “Transportation Reimagined” aims to reimagine transportation for a safe, healthy, and resilient post-pandemic North Carolina. This year’s conference will include technical sessions spotlighting innovative methods utilized during plan development and project delivery to the many challenges brought on by COVID 19. The Plenary and Keynote sessions will also focus on some of these impacts and the refocus of transportation planning in the post-pandemic world. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, April 20 at Ironclad Brewery and will be catered by A Thyme Savor. A wide range of mobile tour opportunities will be available including bike rides through historic downtown and in Carolina Beach that showcase the River to Sea and Gary Shell Cross City trails, as well as the Carolina Beach Greenway and other walking/biking facilities. Tours of the Port of Wilmington and a riverboat cruise are also available to attendees. A “crawl at your own pace” pub crawl and scavenger hunt includes breweries and bars such as New Anthem Beer Project, The Husk, Pour Taproom, Flytrap Brewing, Edward Teach Brewing, and Palate Bottle Shop & Garden.
