Wilmington, NC: On Feb. 3-4 2024, travel industry partners in Wilmington and its island beaches will welcome the 2024 Maximum Cheer Port City Classic.

This two-day competition will take place at the Wilmington Convention Center and consists of both cheer and dance competitors in multiple age divisions. An anticipated 1,500 athletes and 3,000 spectators are expected to attend. Participants and their families will stay at a variety of lodging properties and shop, dine and play in local establishments.

Maximum Cheer was founded in January of 2017 with only two events in two states that season and has since grown to offer events in 13 states. The goal of Maximum Cheer is to provide quality events and an inclusive environment where all athletes feel like they belong.

“We are excited to welcome back the Maximum Cheer Port City Classic to Wilmington for the eighth consecutive year,” states Kim Hufham, President/CEO of the New Hanover County Tourism Development Authority. “Hosting competitions such as this is a terrific opportunity to highlight our destination and create a memorable experience. We hope the athletes and their families enjoy their visit and return for future athletic events and vacations.”

The New Hanover County Tourism Development Authority (TDA), d/b/a Wilmington and Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau, markets and develops the county and its communities’ leisure and group travel experiences for economic growth and quality of place.
